Stjepan Zimmermann

191-1911112-1087
Project Director dr. sc. Dario Škarica

Summary:
The main goal of the project is to supplement the hitherto research into Zimmermann’s philosophy by a detailed research into separate themes within Zimmermann’s noetics (epistemology), philosophy of religion, social philosophy, and the philosophy of culture. There are seven main themes that the project is dedicated to: 1. Zimmermann’s doctrine concerning abstraction, 2. Zimmermann’s arguments in favour of objectivism and realism, 3. Zimmermann’s notion of relational perception, 4. Zimmermann’s understanding of Kant’s philosophy, 5. Zimmermann’s philosophy of religion, 6. Zimmermann’s social philosophy, and 7. Zimmermann’s philosophy of culture. The approach to these themes is, in the first place, the approach of the history of philosophy: the aim is to investigate the development of certain Zimmermann’s concepts, arguments, and notions, as well as the influence of Scholastics and neo-Scholastics, Geyser, the Würzburg school of experimental psychology, etc. Furthermore, Zimmermann’s philosophy is investigated in a critical manner, with the intention to detect the problems in connection with Zimmermann’s views, arguments and notions. In some of the aspects the approach is interdisciplinary (for example the interdisciplinary psychological-philosophical investigation of Zimmermann’s notion of relational perception) and comparative (for example the comparison of Zimmermann’s views with Barač’s evaluation of the social philosophy of bolshevism). The project is expected to yield new (more detailed and specialized) insights concerning Zimmermann’s noetics, philosophy of religion, social philosophy, and the philosophy of culture. In a wider context, the project is conceived as a contribution to researches into the history of modern Croatian philosophy and, in that sense, it fits into both the long-term and the short-term strategic lines of research in the Republic of Croatia (humanities and social sciences and Croatian identity and Croatian past and present contributions to world culture, religion, and sciences).
