RENESANSNA PROŽIMANJA I UTJECAJI: PRIMJER FILOZOFIJE DRŽAVE JEANA BODINA I NIKOLE GUČETIĆA

RENAISSANCE INTERFUSIONS AND INFLUENCES: THE EXAMPLE OF JEAN BODIN’S AND NIKOLA GUČETIĆ’S PHILOSOPHlES OF STATE

The Renaissance in Dubrovnik is characterized by its openness and its connections with the dominant and most significant European culture, the Italian one, in almost all the fields of life, as well as in the field of philosophy. It was through Italian culture that Croatian thinkers made contact with what was then emerging and what European heritage consists of today. In this context, the author analyzes the relationship between the Croatian philosopher Nikola Gučetić and the work of his contemporary Jean Bodin, the author of Les six livres de la République. The influence was both strong and evident. The paper deals with concrete relations, the correlation between the two thinkers; especially with the influence of the widely popular Bodin’s work on our Renaissance thinker. There will be shown similarities, and also essential differences in the philosophical foundation of their respective theories of State. At the same time, the author will point at the novum created by their works in the political philosophy of the sixteenth century, as well as at the modern qualities of their views in our time.
